Notes
Ever since I was a teenager, music has captivated me. I'm a mega-consumer both with Apple Music driving my digital experience, and a plethora of excellent speakers around the house adjacent to my vinyl collection.
But I've also always liked creating it. I'm not good. I've a decent ear but I've never sat down and practiced enough. Nor have I really deep dived into music theory etc. I have a bunch of excellent gear (Gear Acquisition Syndrome is real!) and I love tinkering, but it's a rare occasion for me to go beyond the tinkering phase.
Right now I have 2 PRS guitars, a bunch of effects pedals (notable favourites being from Chase Bliss, particularly my Onward & Mood mk.ii) and my Teenage Engineering kit (OP-1, OP-XY, EP-133, TX-7 and a few other bits). This weekend a drop from Telepathic Instruments' Orchid flashed in front of me so I grabbed it, too.
I said on a prior iteration of this blog that I wanted to create music every month and publish it. Not only did I not find time to make anything every month, the knock-on meant I never felt confident enough in posting anything. I never had anyone to share it, get feedback, iterate, etc. Most of that was down to my work schedule, which became more hectic than it's ever been in my life. I've since changed roles and shifted things a little bit, thus giving me the space to do more at home in the evenings and weekends (hopefully). So I want to take on the mantle of creating in 2026 far more. It'll be me forty-first year on earth, and I can't hang my hat on my weird metal/industrial band from my teenage years as my only proper creative output.
And so, this post is kinda my commitment to that process!
